Rep. Eddie Rodriguez was first elected to the State Legislature in 2002. He was re-elected in November 2008 to his fourth term as the Representative from District 51/Austin. Currently, Rep. Rodriguez serves on the House Committee on Public Safety and on the House Committee on Technology, Economic Development & Workforce. He serves as Treasurer of the Women's Health Caucus in the Texas House of Representatives, and is a member of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, the House Democratic Caucus, the Legislative Study Group, the Legislative Air Quality Caucus and the House Environmental Caucus.

Eddie Rodriguez was born on July 1, 1971 in McAllen, Texas. He graduated from McAllen Memorial High School, and studied two years at St. Mary's University in San Antonio before earning his B.A. in government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995. Rep. Rodriguez earned his Jurus Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin in 2008.
Included in Rep. Rodriguez's legislative agenda are bills that address regional transportation, affordable housing, environmental quality, equitable education, career and technical education, health and human services and the promotion of renewable and sustainable energy as part of a statewide approach to improving environmental quality and creating economic development opportunities for Central Texas.
Rep. Rodriguez serves on the boards of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), the Hispanic Technology Initiative of Austin (a program of the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce), and the Anti-Defamation League-Austin Chapter. He is a board member of the Alliance for Public Transportation, whose mission is to promote regional public transportation in Central Texas, Zachary Scott Theater, and Austin Pets Alive!, which provides resources for education and programs to stop to the killing of companion animals in Austin.
